Visa And Dual Citizenship
The F-4 visa is a type of residence visa that requires applicants to live in Korea and verify their residency with a Korean address. Those who do not plan to stay in Korea on a long-term basis are not eligible for this visa. Children or descendants of Korean adoptees may also qualify to apply for the F-4 visa. Before visiting the immigration office, please make an appointment in advance through the Hi Korea website.

Adoptees are eligible to apply for dual citizenship. Applications can be submitted through the Korean consulate or embassy that has jurisdiction over your current place of residence. After approval, you must either renounce your foreign citizenship within one year or, under certain conditions, submit a “Pledge of Non-Use of Foreign Nationality” to maintain dual citizenship. However, as South Korea enforces mandatory military service, male applicants are strongly advised to seek sufficient legal counsel before making a decision.
